As you may know, I am the board vice president of the Colorado chapter of Docomomo US! Part of this humble executive position is talking to the media on occasion, which is what Josh Robinson (president of the board) and I did the other day, speaking with Denver7 reporter Ethan Carlson. Watch on YouTube (embedding is turned off on this video, so this link will open it directly in YouTube).
The topic was South Dahlia Lane - a small (and very special) enclave of mid-century modern homes in unincorporated Arapahoe County, adjacent to southeast Denver. This neighborhood is special for its origin story, the people involved, its completely unique design, and the fact that it still has pretty high architectural integrity, which is why it is up for consideration for being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Docomomo US/Colorado took on the project to nominate South Dahlia Lane in 2024, a project which continued into this year. The nomination application is now submitted (which is no small feat), and we are just waiting for final approval from the National Park Service, which may take a few months. This is an example of one of the many ways that we advocate for the conservation of works of the modern movement, and we look forward to doing more.

What is Docomomo US/CO:
Docomomo US/Colorado is local club of folks who are enthusiasts of modern architecture and design in the state of Colorado and beyond. As a part of the greater Docomomo US organization, we work on documenting and advocating for the preservation of modern architecture - but mostly, we are an informal community of people who come together from all walks of life, from working preservation, design, and real estate professionals, to people who just love the modern movement and want to learn more about it. We are also a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and welcome your donations.
