Unique Burns Mod Tri-Level with an Addition in Harvey Park

This unique Burns Modern in Denver’s Harvey Park is one of the “Glenwood” tri-level models. One of the interesting aspects of this mid-century modern tri-level design was its inherent flexibility. While almost all tri-levels have an established front and back elevation baked into the design, the Glenwood could be placed on the lot three different ways:

  1. Living room to the front, with a window wall facing the street
  2. Kitchen to the front, with a window wall facing the backyard
  3. Turned 90° to place the split levels to the back of the house, and the ranch end to the street with a window wall in the center, like you see here!

The original owner of this particular home still owns and lives there, and added the addition on the left with the help of friends in various trades in order to add more living space, and to give the home a better entrance experience (in this particular orientation, the entrance would have been placed along the side of the house originally).

He tried to stay somewhat consistent with, yet distinctive to the original house design, and even took care to match the original brick color. Unfortunately, he was not able to source matching dimensions to the original “norman” size bricks on the home (a common, longer brick size used through much of Harvey Park, but no longer available today).

The owner is proud of his home and intends to stay there for the rest of his days . . . not an uncommon sentiment in the neighborhood!

++ This home is NOT presently offered for sale.
