Why Are There Still So Many Holiday Displays Lit Around Denver?!

By Atom Stevens - January 11, 2026

A Cliff May Home in Denver’s Harvey Park features green holiday lights, still shining bright in mid-January.

Why though?!

I’m sure most of you know the answer to this question, but in case you’re new here, or you follow me from afar, here is the inside scoop . . . TRADITION! Holiday lights themselves have been a Denver tradition for over 100 years—not only do we cover our homes in them, but our city hall gets lit up in a breathtaking light display every year . . . we have a “Parade of Lights,” and many venues around town, like the zoo and botanic gardens have light displays of their own.

Another 100+ year Denver tradition is the National Western Stock Show, which is going on RIGHT NOW—we may be a major metropolis, but we are also still very much a cow town (if you’ve never been, go check it out!) In order to keep our town twinkling with colorful lights while we have so many guests here, it is tradition to keep those lights lit until the end of the Stock Show (January 25th this year) . . . so we get an extra month of festive holiday lights here in Denver . . . enjoy it!
