Among the features found in many mid-century modern homes, the clerestory window (especially as a glass gable, as seen in this Norton Polivnick designed Carey “Holiday Home”) is among my favorites.
Being able to see the sky from the living room (or even the bedrooms, as is the case in my Cliff May Home) as the roof of the home appears to float over the walls, blurs the lines between shelter and nature – providing an ambiance of ever changing color and softness of indirect light into the room.
And when implemented in a tract home such as these, it is thoughtful architecture for the masses. Why don’t 21st century homes have this thoughtfulness?
